A provincial election has been called for Ontario and will take place on February 27, 2025. Our team is looking for help to remind our political leaders and candidates from all political parties that wetlands benefit all Ontarians and are critical to biodiversity, water quality, flood mitigation, and climate resilience. Our political leaders need to make wetland protection measures a campaign issue—and a priority for the incoming government.
Below is a copy of the letter Ducks Unlimited Canada has sent to all Ontario political party leaders emphasizing the need for continued investment in wetland restoration that delivers on-the-ground results and support for new wetland conservation policies to achieve a net gain in wetlands.
As part of our government relations outreach strategy, we are turning to Ducks Unlimited Canada volunteers, supporters and community leaders, like you, for help. We are hoping you will assist us in our efforts to get our pre-election messages into the hands of the decision makers in your riding.
Decision makers need to hear from our supporters and their constituents that natural infrastructure, like wetlands, are critical for many different reasons and that they are important to you!
Your voice matters—how you can help:
- Share our letter with your local candidates
- Write your own letter to your local candidates with a few personal messages about why wetlands and wildlife habitat are important to you. Some suggestions on what to include:
-
- Please take pride in emphasizing the tremendous commitment that you have personally made to our precious wetland resources.
-
- Share a story about your local wetland that you visit with your family or simply your appreciation for clean water and a place to enjoy wildlife.
-
- We also encourage you to ask each of the candidates how they plan to address important environmental issues, such as wetland habitat conservation.
Thanks in advance for taking time out of your busy schedule to share your reasons for supporting wetland conservation and for helping to educate your local candidates about the work Ducks Unlimited Canada does in Ontario.
