DUC president named NBWF Sportsman of the Year

Sussex, New Brunswick – This spring the New Brunswick Wildlife Federation (NBWF) presented Ducks Unlimited Canada (DUC) president Mac Dunfield with its Sportsman of the Year award for his dedication to conservation in the province.

“I was totally surprised” says Dunfield. “For me, this is truly recognition of the conservation work DUC is out there doing.”

According to NBWF life member Jim Marriner, the Sportsman of the Year award was created in the mid-1980s and recognizes dedication in the field to of wildlife conservation. The award has been given to NBWF members, outdoor newspaper columnists and Department of Natural Resources biologists.

“I’ve known Mac for over 30 years. We’ve shared time salmon fishing on the Miramichi River and have both worked on the DUC Moncton dinner committee,” says Marriner. “I was very pleased to hear he was to be the recipient of this prestigious award. Having been a past recipient myself, it holds a special meaning. Mac is always willing to assist our conservation efforts and his being recognized as the NBWF’s Sportsman of the Year at our 90th AGM is most fitting.”

Ducks Unlimited Canada (DUC) is the leader in wetland conservation. A registered charity, DUC partners with government, industry, non-profit organizations and landowners to conserve wetlands that are critical to waterfowl, wildlife and the environment. Learn more at ducks.ca.
